Summary

Travel Agency staff developed this adventure program, taking into account the problem of altitude sickness. We suggest acclimatization in the Cusco city (3,399 m.a.s.l. / 11,151 ft.), there can visit the imperial city, this is a beautiful experience, you can appreciate the Inca architecture, colonial churches, temple of the sun (Koricancha), narrow streets, ruins of Sacsayhuaman, Kenko, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay; The traditional meal of the region, as corn soup and other typical plates, it will be a new experience for the visitor.

Itinerary

Tour of city and ruins

Day 01.- the opportunity to appreciate the inca culture.

After breakfast the Antara guide will accompany you to a tour in the imperial city of Cusco, it begins at the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral, the Sun Temple or Koricancha, we can see typical and streets; also we visit the Sacsayhuaman ruins, located in the highest part of the city, ideal place to take pictures, the Quenco amphitheater, Puca Pucara and the “Bath of Ñusta”, Tambomachay. Return to hotel.

Sacred Valley of the Incas

Day 02.- prepare to nice experience and appreciate large fields of corn and potato in diverse variety.

After breakfast the Antara guide will go to your hotel for tour to Sacred Valley of the Incas, it begins with a nice experience, in route to Pisac, you will visit the handicraft and textile center of Awanacancha, see the camelids like llama, alpaca, vicuña animal of fine wool, and the guanaco. After, we will go to handicraft market of Pisac, where locals keep an Inca commercial system called “barter” it is interchange of product by product. Then a delicious rural lunch, in the country estate house “Orihuela”, where there are some Inca pieces and paintings of the School Cusquean; finally, we will visit the Inca town Ollantaytambo, where the streets and houses of Inca style are preserved.  Return to hotel.

Cusco – Valley of Lares – Thermal water – Wacawasi

Day 03.- the beginning of a nice and pleasurable experience.

At 06:00 am a private car picks you up from your hotel to Sacred Valley stopping in archeological ruins and Andean markets, farmed terraces, little towns to get at the highest point of the tour known as Wacawasi (4,450 m.a.s.l. / 14,599 ft.) from this place we will descend to Valley of Lares (3,250 m.a.s.l. / 10,662 ft.), where we will stop to enjoy of thermal water. After three hours of rising walk to Wacawasi we will camp there. Opportunity to meet local people who will show you textile work and their techniques using the ancient customs.

Wacawasi – Abra Ipsay – Patacancha

Day 04.- The longest day, but with help of the Antara guide it will be much easier

Breakfast early. Today is the longest and tired day of the trip because we will walk between 7 to 8 hours. We will arrive to Ipsay (4,480 m.a.s.l. / 14,698 ft.), the ascent can be exhausting but we will have an indescribable panoramic view of snow mountains of Pitusiray, Sawasiray and Chicon surrounded by a beautiful landscape. We will stop to lunch. During the trip we will pass through peasant communities who use ancient techniques in agriculture and textile work. We will continue we walk in descend to camp there close to Patacancha town (3,720 m.a.s.l. / 12,204 ft.). free time to explore your surroundings.

Patacancha – Pumamarca – Ollanta – Aguas Calientes

Day 05.- special day to appreciate communities where people dress colorful costumes.

This day the descend walk will be 5 hours passing through willoq (3,400 m.a.s.l. / 11,154 ft.), Pumamarca (3,200 m.a.s.l. / 10,498 ft.), and many other communities. After we will continue walking to arrive at Ollantaytambo (3,200 m.a.s.l. / 9,186 ft.) which archeological place represent an excellent sample of the wealth of Andean culture. From Ollantaytambo we will take the train to Aguas Calientes (2,050 m.a.s.l. / 6,725 ft.) the touristic city built at the foot of Machu Picchu.  Overnight in Aguas Calientes.

Visit to Machu Picchu – Cusco

Day 06.- the opportunity to appreciate the Inca cultures in all its splendor.

This day, with the Antara guide will take the first bus to Machu Picchu (30 minutes), the lost City of the Incas. We will arrive to Machu Picchu at 7:00 am approximately, when most the tourists have not yet arrived to the citadel. After guided visit to complex, you will have time enough to explore and take some pictures. Finally, we will descend to Aguas Calientes where we will lunch and take the train back to Cusco. Arrive to train station and return to the hotel.

Day 07.- Service of transport

The Antara Guide will be at the given time to accompany you at the airport and will give you your boarding pass, return flight and end of Antara services.
